The Grind would like to thank you for supporting our inaugural event. This was the first year running this event at this facility, and weather certainly was challenging. However, thank you for your patience as we worked with the conditions.
A special thank you to the Tuckahoe Turf Farm for allowing us to use their fields, and for giving us the ability to re-line new fields under short notice to get games in when fields went out on Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning. Hence, why the field map changed a few times. We apologize for the confusion the map may have caused, but are grateful that we were allowed to move fields on short notice to get in the games. Also, thank you for allowing us to get a number of games in on Sunday on the playable fields, even after losing a number to wet conditions. The fact that we were even able to play at all on any portion of the grounds on Sunday just shows the remarkability of these fields.
We would also like to address our modified game schedule for Sunday. We ended up losing 9 fields on Sunday, and we had 80 games affected by the late rain on Saturday that we needed to fit into Sunday. Some of the teams that played on Saturday, received 3 full games, some received only one, and others did not get in any games, as their pool was scheduled to start at 4pm. In addition, we had a number of College Coaches who RSVP’d that wanted to watch the high school girls play. As such, we tried to be as fair as possible to the whole event when looking at the best way to reschedule, in the field and time constraints presented. Instead of giving shortened times to everyone, as this would have resulted in teams that had not played yet only receiving 2 shortened games, and even shorter if we kept the Championship format; We decided to give 3 full games to everyone. This decision was hard to make as we wanted everyone to play on Sunday, but it did result in a number of teams not playing at all.
We apologize for making this decision and posting the new schedule so late on Saturday. It took us some time to run different scenarios to be fair to the overall event. We will continue to examine the way this situation was handled, and will make improvements for a better experience going forward.
Your support is greatly appreciated. As mentioned before, this is our first year with The Grind, and it is the first time lacrosse has been welcomed to the Tuckahoe Turf Farm. There were a number of challenges and things learned this weekend, and we look forward to making this an even stronger tournament next year!
